We were contracted by a large London marketing agency to effect all the assembly, packing and despatch on a major promotion for Post Office Counters.
This group of outlets had at the time over 6500 sub-post offices but the sales of instant scratchcards were extremely low per outlet. The campaign was aimed at growing sales utilising a major point of sale promotion.
So each outlet needed to receive a number of posters ranging in size from A0 through to A2, flyers, badges, pens, balloons and many more giveaways. We also had to source suitable packaging so that all the items could be delivered in one parcel! Not easy as nothing existed 'off the shelf', but we knew where to go and what to consider in terms of rigidity of the finished parcel.
In total each outlet was to receive over 750 pieces of support materials and giveaways which meant we had to pack almost 5 million items to complete the job. In addition, we could not start the collation until late on a Friday afternoon and all had to be despatched on the Monday morning.
It was a cold February weekend when our assembled team of 20 regular staff and 30 part-timers arrived at our warehouse for a special work weekend and we set to on the project. Feeding and watering the crew was of paramount importance in what was a fairly cold environment so we hired in a mobile snack company to supply the catering.
The cold weather helped as everyone seemed to want to move quicker, and we managed to complete the job by the middle of Sunday afternoon. The end result was 147 full pallets which were collected by a stream of container lorries on the Monday morning.
Quite a weekend and somewhat typical of what can be thrown at us - a bit like a lottery.
